What is "Going Green"?

New Fairfield Going Green is a program created and sponsored by the New Fairfield Youth Commission. It is supported by our Board of Selectmen. We were moved to start this program after learning from the CPTV documentary, The Warming of Connecticut, that the climate of New Fairfield could well become like that of South Carolina in the next 50 years, while we are raising our children.

Our goal is to encourage New Fairfield households to make a public pledge to protect the environment through activities that reduce, reuse or recycle waste, reduce energy use and help us rethink our role in global climate change. Watch for us around town as we pass out the pledges and seek your participation.

When you sign the pledge, the location of your home will turn green on the map of New Fairfield on our website (if you give your permission). The Green-o-meter will also rise, providing an easy reference to the increasing number of homeowners participating in the New Fairfield Going Green program.

There are lots of links on the website to local information on recycling, reuse, energy reduction and climate change. Check them out and come back to them often. Make this your local resource for what you can do to impact climate change.

Our goal is to sign up 250 households or more by May 31st. In June the Youth Commission will make a formal presentation to the Board of Selectmen on our progress. Watch for us on Channel 17! We're also working to sustain New Fairfield Going Green once the Youth Commission has gotten it up and running.

We hope we can count on you to help make our future secure. Remember, no one can do it all, but we all can do something. So, think globally, but act locally! Download the powerpoint of the presentation given on channel 17 to learn more.

If you're having trouble with the website or have any suggestions, contact us at green@nfgoinggreen.com.
